1-800-FEEL-OK

A number, on the can, that you can call and get a pre-recorded message (more info). How awesome! This idea blow my mind when I was a kid. It felt so hip and interesting and almost something that was slightly secretive. I think the secrecy must have come from the fact the most people didn't know or like OK Soda. It kept something that look so big and real to be something that just a few people coveted. The number was a connection. A connection to the brand but more so to an identity of outcasts that found a home with a bizarre beverage that lived for only a few years. To me, this was the 90's. There was a large "underground" movement that was mainstream and yet, somehow felt genuine and interesting. Maybe I was young, because I was, and naïve but this time in pop culture will never be the same. The internet has stripped away the intrigue of random, bizarre, off the wall marketing that gets people to think and engage. People still try for this kind of authentic and interest grasp on the consumer mindset but it is quickly ripped a part by Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets. The subtle mystery is quickly removed and all that is left is a marketers sadness and defeated lower gaze.
